We are removing unsafe structures and rehabilitating Crown land at Old Ferry Road, Illawong. The project will make the area safer and prepare it for future community enjoyment along the Georges River foreshore.

Updates

  • Further remediation work is required to ensure the land is free of contaminants before it can be reopened for public use.
  • Planning for the next stage of works is underway, with the upcoming phase to include installation of a new seawall and capping of contaminated land. Subject to funding, these works are likely to begin at the end of 2026.
  • An ecologist will commence assessment of potential impacts on the adjoining wetlands in early 2026.

Demolition (completed): Removal of 5 unsafe structures from Crown land, including hazardous materials, old vehicles, and overgrown weeds. 

Rehabilitation: Comprehensive site recovery to make the area safe and ready for everyone to enjoy.
