Summary
Part of the Urunga Lido beach remains temporarily closed to the public following the discovery of asbestos fragments. The remainder of the beach is open for continued public use and enjoyment.
We acknowledge the inconvenience that this closure has caused for the community, local businesses, and visitors. However, the safety of the users of the beach remains at the forefront of the closure.

- Crown Lands acted immediately upon the asbestos discovery, collecting visible fragments while engaging experts to inspect the site, undertake sampling, and provide advice on ongoing management options.
- Actions continue to be undertaken in accordance with legislation which regulates the management of contaminated land over the part of the potentially affected area.
- To date, we have received a report that details the site history, which informed the required sampling.
- Due to the unknown source of the asbestos, sampling was undertaken on land and underwater. No further sampling is required.
