We oversee the management of nearly half of NSW's land, known as the Western Division. This includes direct management of land, assets, and infrastructure, as well as providing property management services. Our team also supports a network of professional and volunteer land managers.
Land use and leases
Most of the land in the Western Division is held under western lands leases. These leases are used for grazing, agriculture, homes, and businesses. Eligible western lands leases can be purchased, converting the title to freehold.
Western lands committees and boards
Western lands advisory committee
The Western Lands Advisory Committee is a representative stakeholder group that helps us engage with its main western division stakeholders on a range of Crown land initiatives. This committee continues the important role of the former Western Lands Advisory Council.
Border fence maintenance board
The Border fence maintenance board maintains the 600 km dog-proof fence along parts of the Queensland and South Australian borders. This essential infrastructure protects the pastoral industry and reduces stock losses for landholders. The board is funded by a levy charged to landholders in the western division with properties over 1,000 hectares.
