Crown land managers
Crown land managers are responsible for the day-to-day management of Crown land. They ensure that the land is used and maintained in accordance with the Crown Land Management Act 2016 and other relevant legislation. Crown land managers include local councils, community groups, and other organisations appointed by the Minister.
We manage a variety of built and natural assets across the state, including coastal infrastructure, walking tracks, dams, lighthouses, and historical buildings. We also provide support to Crown land managers to manage built assets on reserves.
The plan includes objectives and actions that we will take over the next 2 years (2025–26).
We use these guidelines to integrate Crown land management with the NSW coastal management framework. They help address risks such as beach erosion and coastal inundation. The guidelines assist councils and other Crown land managers in managing coastal Crown land.
The community can help make decisions about how the Crown land they enjoy is used. The Community Engagement Strategy ensures decisions are made in an open and transparent way.
We ensure compliance with legislation and policies related to Crown land. Our enforcement actions include monitoring, inspections, and taking necessary actions against non-compliance. We work closely with other agencies to uphold the integrity of Crown land management.
The program supports the Aboriginal community, including Traditional Owners and local Aboriginal land councils, to undertake cultural fire management practices on Crown land.

We facilitate the management of natural assets on Crown land. Our actions include weed and pest control, revegetation, contaminated site remediation, and looking after waterways where there are no Crown land managers or tenure holders.
Our fire management program includes establishing and maintaining fire trails, Asset Protection Zones, and conducting hazard reduction burns. We collaborate with the Rural Fire Service (RFS) to plan and prepare for bushfire management on Crown land.
Our flood management program focuses on maintaining safe access, supporting emergency response, and guiding Crown land holders through recovery.
Crown land belongs to the people of NSW, and its management is guided by laws and principles that ensure it is used fairly, sustainably, and in the public interest.
