Extractive industry licence

Operating a quarry on Crown land

You need an extractive industry licence to operate a quarry on Crown land for extracting materials like sand, soil, or gravel.

This licence ensures you conduct extraction and ancillary activities in a manner consistent with the Crown Land Management Act 2016, and other considerations such as environmental and planning regulations (including parameters of operating times, rehabilitation, and dust control).

What you need to apply

  • Find a suitable site to run a quarry and extract sand, soil, or gravel on Crown land.
  • Use the NSW Planning Portal Spatial Viewer to check the land is Crown land, its lot/dp, and zoning.
  • In the search field, choose either address or lot/dp, and enter the relevant information.

Fees

We will send you an invoice for any fees after we receive your application. Once you pay the application fee, we will process your application.
