Crown Lands

Surrender a Western lands lease

A leaseholder(s) can apply to surrender their Western lands lease. The applicant must be the registered leaseholder, and all parties with an interest in the lease must sign the form. Each application is evaluated based on its merits and circumstances.

  • Surrendering does not cancel any debt to the Crown unless the Minister directs it.
  • Upon surrender, the land or the leased land (to the extent that it is not Crown land) becomes Crown land.

Acceptance of the surrender is not automatic and is subject to:

  • payment of all outstanding rents and other overdue monies, if any
  • determination by this Department that the land has been left in a clean and tidy state
  • possible removal of building structures
  • fencing is in a stock proof condition (if applicable), and
  • payment of all costs associated with surrendering the lease.

Fees

We will send you an invoice for any fees after we receive your application. Once you pay the application fee, we will process your application.
