Narrandera Industrial Hall restoration

Projects

The Narrandera Industrial Hall, built in 1902, is a rare octagonal showground pavilion.

It is the only surviving building of its design and type known to exist on a showground in NSW and is listed on the NSW State Heritage Register.

The Narrandera Industrial Hall restoration project seeks to safely remediate the site and reopen it to the public.

Our priority is to maintain the hall’s historical significance and ensure public safety.

A substantial investment has been made to meet heritage and restoration standards, which will require specialist materials and skilled trades.

Updates

Conservation management plan complete

Due to the hall's state-heritage listing, we have prepared a conservation management plan.

The plan outlines what is significant about the hall and how to manage changes over time to ensure the significance is retained.

Community engagement

Earlier this year, Crown Lands asked the community for feedback on potential future uses of Narrandera Industrial Hall.

13 submissions were received. Respondents shared fond memories of the hall’s architecture and exhibitions. Some had family connections to the hall’s history, while others were new to the area but still admired the building.

Next steps

  1. Design plan

We’re working to finalise a design plan that meets the building’s restoration needs and aligns with its heritage listing and conservation management plan.

  2. Heritage NSW impact permit

Due to the hall’s heritage status, a Section 60 heritage impact permit from Heritage NSW will be required before works can start.

  3. Funding

We will then seek funding for remediation works. This could include grant funding or funding from Crown Lands, if available.
