New seawall for Kiama Harbour Walk

A new seawall will be built at Kiama Harbour and an accessible waterside walk upgraded under a $2.1 million investment.

A new seawall will be built at Kiama Harbour and an accessible waterside walk upgraded under a $2.1 million investment.

The project will improve the stability of the seawall and the safety, amenity, and accessibility of the coastal walkway.

It will include new seawall retaining walls, new street furniture and a seating area, a new accessible ramp, stainless steel handrails and balustrades, and landscaping. The boat ramp and trailer parking area will be retained.

Crown Lands has commissioned artwork with Illawarra Local Aboriginal Land Council that will see a whale pattern embedded as a feature on the seawall.

The seawall will provide stronger protection against storm surges to safeguard Black Beach Reserve, and the walkway will better connect people to local features like the rockpool, blowhole and parkland.

We are in discussions with the project contractor on additional work that is required to secure the seawall to bedrock on the harbour floor. As soon as a decision is finalised we will publish the details.
