Emergency management principles

We focus on 4 main principles of emergency management:

Prevention

We take steps to stop emergencies from happening or make them less severe.

Preparedness

We get ready for emergencies by planning, training, and gathering resources.

Recovery

We help communities and businesses get back to normal after the emergency is over.

Our role in State Emergency Management Plan

We are a supporting agency under the State Emergency Management Plan (EMPLAN). We help the main authority during emergency operations, by:

  • Sending officers to emergency operation centres and incident management teams.
  • Giving advice and access to Crown land assets and infrastructure.
  • Providing data on NSW Crown Land–managed assets, hazard mapping for Crown land, Crown Land–managed fire trails, and Crown roads.
  • Coordinating impact data and intelligence to inform recovery priorities and support packages.
  • Managing recovery grant programs related to Crown land.

Contact us to report damage relating to Crown roads, bridges, reserves, showgrounds, dangerous trees and other issues relating to the Crown estate and assets.

Flood management

We take safety actions to mitigate risks, seek Commonwealth Disaster Recovery Funding for flood damaged Crown Lands assets, and provide guidance for land managers and lease and Licence holders to support flood management on Crown land.

Fire management

Our fire management program includes establishing and maintaining fire trails, Asset Protection Zones, and conducting hazard reduction burns. We work with the Rural Fire Service (RFS) to plan and prepare for bushfire management on Crown land.

Emergency management for Crown land managers

Crown land managers should be prepared for emergencies on Crown reserves. Having an emergency management plan can minimise the impact, preserving lives and property.
