Crown Lands

South Ballina shorebird, 1080 fox control

Projects

Crown Lands is conducting a targeted ground baiting program using sodium fluoroacetate (‘1080’) poison to control wild dogs and foxes from 3 November to 19 December.

The program will take place on Crown land near South Ballina Beach, covering the beach and adjacent dunes, with bait stations positioned from Boundary Creek Road in the south up to Richmond River Nature Reserve in the north. Signs advising 1080 baiting will be displayed at all beach entrances where baits have been set.

The baiting is to protect threatened shorebirds against fox predation during the bird breeding season and additionally helps protect neighbouring stock. The 1080 ground baiting is a priority action of the NSW Fox Threat Abatement Plan.
