Crown Lands plays an important role in emergency management in NSW and is responsible for ensuring assets affected by natural disasters are restored and made safe for public use. Over recent years, bushfires and floods have significantly affected communities across the state. Crown Lands has provided immediate assistance to impacted communities through activities such as:
- Coordinating the repair and restoration of affected Crown land assets,
- Supporting Crown land managers to assess damaged assets,
- Providing financial support to Crown land managers through grants or low interest loans to clean-up and restore affected assets,
- Providing land for temporary housing for flood and bushfire victims,
- Providing land for flood and bushfire displaced stock, and
- Assisting local councils and stakeholders to deliver coordinated disaster response and recovery efforts.

In 2022, severe weather and flooding natural disaster areas were declared in many parts of NSW. The department provided immediate support for impacted Crown land managers, occupants, and users of Crown land.
