Thrill seekers and adventurers will be able to enjoy the facilities at the Scouts Cataract Activity Centre at Appin to their fullest after the NSW Government funded $439,982 worth of upgrades to the site.

Crown Lands provided grants from the Crown Reserves Improvement Fund (CRIF) to upgrade the accommodation facilities at Cataract Activity Centre Campsite 8 and other improvements.

Work included construction of four individual family rooms, each with its own ensuite. In addition, a separate accessible amenities block - including two adaptable toilets and showers, with handrails and a lowered basin for wheelchair users - was constructed.

Internal cladding was also installed to ensure the temperature inside each dwelling is well-regulated so guests can stay at the site in comfort.

Further improvements included traffic calming speed bumps, balustrades, security lighting, and improved First Aid equipment including a defibrillator onsite.

The enhanced facilities will be an incentive for more guests to stay overnight at Scouts Cataract Activity Centre, allowing outdoor enthusiasts ample time to enjoy the wide variety of activities on offer, including abseiling, caving, obstacle courses, bushwalking and water slides.

The upgrades to campsites and accommodation will also make it easier for Scouts and school and community groups to visit the site for excursions, encouraging visitors to learn vital real-world skills such as problem-solving, teamwork and planning while enjoying the great outdoors.

Scouts NSW Executive Manager of Operations, Community and Growth, Shane Simmons said his organisation is always looking for ways to improve visitor experience at their campsites.

"By adding new permanent accommodation, including ensuites, it creates fresh options for all our visitors, especially community groups looking for an alternative venue for their event," Mr Simmons said.

"We appreciate the opportunity the Crown Reserves Improvement Fund Program grant has given us to develop and upgrade these facilities to build Cataract's appeal now and into the future."

Member for Campbelltown Greg Warren said the upgrades will mean the young and the young heart can enjoy an extended stay at Cataract Scout Park.

"The significant improvements will give parents confidence that their children can enjoy the Australian bush in safety," Mr Warren said.

"There's no greater joy I get than seeing investment in our community, particularly when it's for our local kids."

Minister for Lands and Property Steve Kamper said funding will help Scouts NSW go from strength to strength.

"Scouts NSW is one of our state's largest and most successful youth organisations helping build leadership skills, resilience and friendship while offering a variety of activities for young people," Mr Kamper said.

"This kind of substantial investment is designed to improve our public spaces, allowing equitable access to Crown land and creating prosperous and resilient communities across our state."
