Port Macquarie

Port Macquarie

Port Macquarie is situated on the southern side of the Hastings River and is approximately 320 km north of Sydney on the mid north coast of NSW.

Port Macquarie began as a convict settlement in 1821 and by 1831 port facilities were well established.

Work to train the Hastings River commenced in 1897 and continued in stages up until 1977 to stabilise the river entrance and provide safe navigation for maritime traffic.

A range of maritime facilities are located along the southern and western foreshores of the Hastings River. The facilities include a large public timber wharf (Lady Nelson Wharf), charter vessel jetties, the Hastings River Fishermen’s Co-operative building and unloading wharf, boat ramps and marina.
