Nelson Bay

Nelson Bay

Port Stephens began operating as a port in the 1880s with a regular shipping service to Sydney.

However, it wasn’t until 1974 that Nelsons Bay harbour was formalised with the construction of a breakwater, a new unloading wharf and fishermen’s cooperative depot.

More recently, the harbour has been redeveloped and modernised and boasts a complete range of services to support boating, diving and fishing enthusiasts and tourists to enjoy the best of Port Stephens.

Features within the harbour include visitor berths, public wharves, slipway and boat maintenance area, world class marina, boat ramp, parking, charter vessels and boat hire.

Other features include restaurant, café and takeaway food, specialty shopping and fishing equipment.

Fresh local seafood is available from the fishermen’s cooperative.

The harbour has linkages to the nearby foreshore, parks and the Nelson Bay CBD.
