The Eden Port Development project

Breakwater Wharf Extension

The Port of Eden is in the process of transformation with two major construction projects currently under way. They are the Eden Breakwater Wharf extension project and the Safe Harbour project.

Breakwater Wharf Extension Project

Eden is becoming a popular destination with an increasing number of cruise ship stop overs. The Breakwater Wharf Extension project will allow cruise ships up to 325 metres to berth at the wharf once completed.

The construction of the wharf extension will include:

  • Dredging of up to 230,000 cubic meters of material to improve access
  • Extending the existing wharf by approximately 110 metres
  • Installation of berthing and mooring dolphins
  • Installation of landside bollards
  • Installation of minor services (lighting, power and potable water)

Total funding for the project is $44 million. This includes contributions from the Australian Government of $10 million and the Bega Valley Shire Council of $2 million.

The following timeframes are proposed for the major stages of the project:

  • Request for dredging tenders – November 2016
  • Request for construction tenders – April 2017
  • Commence dredging – September 2017
  • Commence construction – March 2018
  • Project completion – March 2019

The Eden Breakwater Wharf Extension project has been approved under Section 5.1 of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979. You can access information about the project and planning process at the Department of Planning and Environment website.
